Finally got my DNS cluster running

What a cluster…

(C’mon, you’d have been really disappointed in me if I hadn’t gone there.)

Anywho, it’s true — I finally got my Technitium DNS cluster up and running.  Getting 2 separate nodes up and running?  Easy peasy.  Getting them to actually join a cluster?  Not so easy peasy.

Until yesterday (or maybe it was the day before…).

On and off, I’d been putting in some effort here and there to get my two Technitium instances — which currently reside on my mini PC’s in what I would term as a “dev environment” — to join a cluster.  Once “clusterized”, one simply would have to configure one of them and then the configuration would magically appear on the other, thereby eliminating the need to make the same update(s) twice, once on each box (or even more than twice if one has more than two boxes, but I digress).  Each time I would try, however, I’d get some janky message about certs and failures and who knows what else because, honestly, after the previous attempts, I let it sit for so long that I have long forgotten what the specific issues were.

But then, recently, along came a new version — 15.0.

I thought to myself “Hey, self!  There’s a new version of Technitium out!  You may as well pull it down and, heck, while you’re at it how about giving that whole cluster-f of clustering another go?”

So I did.

After pulling the new version on each machine, I went through the same machinations I had gone through countless times before in order to create the cluster.  Except that, this time, it worked.  (!)

I’ve been testing it and so far, so good!  So good, in fact, that I’m already planning to move the instances to their permanent “production” homes in the not too distant future.  Yay, me!
