My new 2TB SSDs sat on my desk for nearly 2 months before I finally found time to install them. That day was today.

A bit before noon (I know this because I am a clock watcher :-)), I shut down all my docker containers and VMs, then disabled the docker and VM services to ensure there would be no open files when I attempted to move the data off the existing SSDs to the array. Then, at about 12:05 p.m., I initiated the process to move the data from the SSDs to the array. That process took a LOT longer than I expected – in excess of 2 hours to move 375GB of data! Granted, it had to write parity as it wrote data so that definitely slowed it down somewhat.
Once the mover finally finished, I stopped the array and shut the system down, cracked it open and swapped the 500GB drives out and 2TB drives in.
Got the system started back up, configured it to recognize the new drives, formatted them, and then told the mover to put everything back, which also took some time. How much I have no idea because I left it to do its thing while I went out and socialized.

Once I got back to the house data center around 9, I verified the move had completed, then I fired up all the VMs and Docker containers again and we’re back in business!
I am happy to report that I now have plenty of space to expand my VM and cache needs!
