Squirrel!

It’s gotten “nuts” around here.  I have so many things on my plate, and I seem to get going on one, only to have something dangled in front of me and distract me from what I was working on.  Then the process repeats itself, over and over.

It’s gotten so crazy that I had to resurrect my “to-do list“.  Here are just a few things I can rattle off the top of my head that I want to do in the very nearish future…

  • Install a cable tray on my work desk, and mount my 12-outlet power strip to the bottom of the desk (that may actually be happening tonight; fingers crossed).
  • Stand up and evaluate Matrix for the purpose of rerouting the notifications I currently send to my Discord server.
  • Stand up and evaluate Immich for the purpose of replacing the long defunct Picasa for photo management.
  • Stand up and evaluate Grocy for the purpose of maintaining a record of my recreational beverages.
  • Stand up and evaluate Authentik for the purpose of single authentication source for my growing stable of self-hosted applications.
  • Stand up and evaluate an internal DNS solution – possibly Technitium – to allow for DNS resolution for internal assets as well as possibly some ad-blocking functionality.
  • Stand up and evaluate NetBird for the purpose of why not?

This is just some of the stuff I’m trying to prioritize in my home lab.

In work-related news, I’ve recently converted from Windows to Mac and am starting to get all DevOpsy™.  So that is taking a ton of my time as well.

What I haven’t done so far this calendar year?  I haven’t gamed.  Yep, you saw it here first.  I’ve forgone Fortnite and all the other things that seemed to occupy my time, and it may come in handy because if I don’t need/want to game, I don’t need Windows anymore.  I’m down to two Windows machines right now and one of them is going to get converted to Linux Mint really soon.  If I like it, I’ll keep it.  If I don’t, it will eventually get converted to Ubuntu.

So there you go, that’s what I’m up to as 2026 gets rollin’.  If I find the time, I’ll report back on some of these initiatives if and when I get there!
