Phase 1 of my network nerdery was a resounding success!
Just a short update to my previous post to announce/confirm/acknowledge that my testing went completely as planned and gave me the results I wanted. Now the only thing stopping me from deploying my new network is the purchase! We will see how/when that goes, but I honestly had been hoping it would have already happened by now. But hey, stuff happens.
More on this topic as events transpire!
Happy Saturday!
Nice! I’m not so lucky out here in the boonies, I have to use the ISP router in front of mine. Causes all kinds of “unique” issues.
It’s been common knowledge for a while that I can run without my ISPs device in front of my stuff but I wasn’t sure if I’d have to call them when I put my stuff on there because in the past, other ISPs locked stuff down by MAC address. My experiments confirmed what I had read which is essentially no such restriction exists.
In the grand scheme, I don’t really mind having to call them; what I was (and am) hoping to avoid, however, is putting my stuff online, finding out I have to pull it out because something is not working again, and going through that cycle as many times as necessary while having to call them every time I make a change. Knowing I don’t have to involve them is a little bit like hitting the lottery, just without the early retirement.
